«Dear fellow lovers of children's books!
The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is a non-profit
organisation that represents an international network of people who are
committed to bringing books and children together. Currently this network
of National Sections covers 72 countries worldwide! The Portuguese IBBY
section was first set up in 1968 and then reformed in 1993. Sadly at the
end of 2008 the Section disbanded and for the last two years we have no
representation from Portugal. One of the many consequences of this
situation is the lack of Portuguese authors and illustrators nominated for
the Hans Christian Andersen Award and the celebrated IBBY Honour list. The
absence of IBBY Portugal in this international network is unsatisfactory.
To move forward we would like to discuss the possibilities of establishing a
new IBBY section in Portugal. Therefore, we plan to hold a meeting on
Friday, 15 April 2011 in Lisbon inviting all those in the sphere of
children’s books in Portugal – authors, illustrators, publishers,
researchers, librarians, etc. – who are interested in the possibilities IBBY
can offer Portuguese children’s literature and its creators.
If you would like to join the meeting, please send your confirmation to
liz.page@ibby.org
We are very grateful for your efforts and look forward to meeting you in
Lisbon where we can discuss the possible re-establishment of IBBY Portugal.
Thanking you in advance! Sincerely,
Marilar Aleixandre, Chair of IBBY’s Membership Committee
Wally De Doncker, Vice President of IBBY
Liz Page, Executive Director of IBBY»
